Dear Bitnami Documentation People and Technical Folks, I have a couple of special requests:
1 Update this page with correct info for the elastic search virtual appliance:
1A: bnconfig is not in documented directory, it's in two directories:
1B: "The bnconfig tool also has an option which updates the IP address, called --machine_hostname" ... NO it doesn't, it updates the hostname only, not the IP address.
1C: "You can also change your hostname by modifying it in your hosts file. Enter the new hostname using your preferred editor." The example command line includes the 'nano' editor, which NOT available by default on the virtual appliance. Use vim,
bnconfig doesn't change the hostname, it errors out: ctlscript.sh start elasticsearch : child process exited abnormally
We found so many things broken in the virtual appliances for ELK stack and Elastic Search, that we gave up and built both products from scratch. It took us about the same time we spent trying to fix the virtual machines to have a static IP, getting ssh to run, getting the products to install, recovering the default randomly generated password, and getting the OS to properly mount a larger drive for local log analysis.
I normally love your marketplace of things, this one page is horribly incorrect though, please fix. Perhaps give the option of entering static Ip and hostname at first boot? not depend on dhcp being available? idk, we're all real dissapointed here, we were hoping to get them up and running fast, and it turned into a fizzle.
