Thanks for reporting it, I just reproduced the issue. We have included it in our backlog. As the impact of the issue is limited and not critical, there are no immediate plans to work on it. Nevertheless, it will be considered for future application versions.
In the meantime, you can use this workaround:
It seems the issue is related to the upload of the images because Gravatar works fine for me.
I went to
Admin => Site Admin => Settings => User Avatar -> Enable Gravatar
and clicked on
After that, I went to
Account => Settings
and clicked on the empty profile picture close to the name. In the "Select profile picture" box, I clicked
From Gravatar tab and use a previously registered Gravatar account.
Last step is click on
