Keywords: LAMP/MAMP/WAMP - Windows - How to - Upgrade
I've seen a few points on this, but I want to be absolutely clear on understanding the process.
We migrated our web application from HostGator over to Hostwinds so we could have a Windows Server (2016), that we could more easily deploy our application under. When the server was spun up for us, we explained we needed a WAMP Stack installed on our server, since we needed to have access to Apache, MySQL and PHP to name a few.
Hostwinds downloaded, installed and configured the Bitnami WAMP stack on our server. Version 7.1.29-0.
We were able to move our database over to the new server on Hostwinds. We were able to configure our software. And after 10 days of back and forth with Hostwinds, they were able to configure our SSL certificate for us on our server.
The site is up and running, everything is operational.
I decided on my new workstation that I was going to install the Bitnami WAMP stack on my computer so I could do local work and not have any issues with the fact that I am working in a different environment.
When I went to the Bitnami download section for the WAMP stack, I saw that version 7.3.9-0 was available.
I've been digging through documentation for the last 3 hours. In everything I've looked at, I can't find a section that says "This is how you update your WAMP stack to a newer version".
What I did find was this....
A technical post that basically covers upgrading to a new version of the Stack you're attempting to upgrade. From what I've read in this article, it looks to me like the only way to upgrade to a new version of the stack is to shut down the services, backup all your configuration files, uninstall the old WAMP stack, and then install a new version of the WAMP stack in its place. Once that is in place, you need to replace your configuration files. Or at least the updated portions of what is in the configuration files.
Here's my fear. The moment I bring the WAMP stack down and install a newer version of the WAMP stack in its place, the SSL certificate that Hostwinds worked for 10 days on is going to break. And I'm going to be left holding the bag on how to incorporate the SSL certificate back into the new WAMP stack.
I realize we need to make sure we stay on top of the WAMP stack, because new versions of the components in the stack are being released in order to keep anybody from introducing any malicious code into your environment.
Is this actually the correct way to install an upgrade to the WAMP stack? Or have I missed something? I kept thinking there would be and upgrade installer that you would run that would incorporate the new components, and keep your environment in place. But from what I've been reading, I'm now thinking that that is not the case.
Is there any other elements to migrating your WAMP stack to a new version that I've missed that anybody could point me to? I would greatly appreciate it.
TIA for any help!!
