Unable to install x-pack for elasticsearch 6.3 production cluster on GCP

I have launched elasticsearch 6.3 production cluster on GCP
https://console.cloud.google.com/launcher/details/bitnami-launchpad/elasticsearch-cluster

Then try to install x-pack through "elasticsearch-plugin install x-pack" after ssh into the nodes.

However, it fails as it said x-pack cannot be installed in this distribution, and suggest me to install default distributions

Any suggestion?

As Elastic says in this documentation,
By default, when you install Elasticsearch, Kibana, and Logstash, X-Pack is installed. Starting with version 6.3, X-Pack ships with the default distributions of Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, and Logstash. However, X-Pack is under Elastic license, so we are not able to ship this. Instead, we use the OSS distribution.

Also, as you can see here, The installation instructions are only valid for versions 6.2 and older. In versions 6.3 and later, X-Pack is included with the default distributions of Elastic Stack, with all free features enabled by default.

Hi Davidg, thanks for the response.

Does it mean we won't able to install x-pack with bitnami elasticsearch 6.3 on GCP (oos distribution)? Do you know if there is any way we can get around the restriction?

Besides, it is possible for us to install previous version of bitnami elasticsearch, ie 6.2, via GCP cloud launcher?

I would suggest to ask it in Elastic forums, but I don't think it will possible. They offer a 30-day trial https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/setup-xpack.html

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use previous versions in our multitier solutions.

Hi Davidg,

If we want to use binami elasticserach but we need features like monitoring/security, are there alternative other than x-pack we can use?

That's a really specific question about the application. Bitnami packages and configures already existing applications. We can only offer support and help on basic and most frequent application configurations. Always based on the default configuration or on our guides.

Probably someone with more experience and knowledge about that application can help you better than we can. We suggest you to post your question on the official support forums of the application so others can help you with your issue.
