Too many redirects (302) error when logged in users try to access the website

I run a few sites using Bitnami multisite WordPress website on AWS. I have ELB configured and routes all HTTP requests to HTTPS through ELB. All the sites work fine as is. However; when users (with woocommerce customer role) login to one of the sites, they run into too many redirect issues when they try to access the homepage URL. This occurs only for the homepage URL, all other URLs; seem to work fine.

I have gone through almost all redirect issues reported here and tried all the recommendations. Nothing seem to work for me.

Bitnami support tool failed to upload the bundle. I can attach it to the ticket.

This is the message I see when I ran the tool:

The support bundle file was successfully created, but the automatic upload to Bitnami servers failed. You will need to upload it to your Bitnami Support ticket manually. Here is the error I see for the site when a user tries to access homepage (domain name replaced as this is a live site)

Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for sharing the info. Can you give me more information about your deployment?

I can see your domain is pointing to 2 different IP addresses. Can you explain why?

Are they the ELB IP addresses?

I understand the site was working properly till you made a change, can you let us know what changed you made? Did you configure the ELB before getting the error?

Can you point the domain name to the instance's IP address instead of the ELB?

Hi Jota,

Thank you for your response. Yes, I am using ELB and those 2 IP addresses are the ELB addresses.

The only changes I made was to disable access to xmlrpc.php and had removed the registration on the website (added NOBLOGDREDIRECT and later removed it). No changes were made on ELB. On ELB I had port 80 re-directing to 443. However; to debug this issue, I have removed that redirection. Even then when I try to hit port 80 with HTTP, the request is getting redirected to port 443. I do not have any configuration enabled for HTTP to HTTPS redirection on Apache configurations.

Yes, I had followed the guides you shared while configuring the site, except for HTTP to HTTPS redirection. I do not use the domain mapping tool anymore.

Hi @nixman,

I understand the website was working properly before these changes, no? In order to debug the issue and get more information, you can configure your DNS to point directly to the instance's IP without using the ELB, if everything works properly with that configuration, then the problem is in the ELB conf. If not, we will need to take a deeper look at your conf and log files.

Thanks again @jota. Unfortunately, I have the certificates issued by Amazon and are stored in ACM. So if I bye-pass the ELB, users will encounter a certificate error and will not be able to access the site. If I hit the IP address directly, it redirects me to the root website. Looks like there is some redirection going on at Wordpress.

Hi @nixman,

I just configured your domain in my /etc/hosts file to point the domain to the instance's IP directly (w/o Load Balancer) and I got a different error when trying to access the app

There is a troubleshooting guide here that might help you

Please modify the /etc/hosts file of your computer to access the application directly without load balancer to test the changes

@jota I followed the guide and made the changes to resolve the cookie issues. However; the issue is now exaggerated and many users are unable to login.

Could you also confirm if i should be continuing to use domain mapping tool? Originally I had used the plugin to configure the domains and had reference to SUNRISE.PHP. I have removed that now. Could this be an issue?

Hi @nixman, let's try adding the plugin back, It could have left some configuration there and wordpress is trying to follow it. Could you enable back this plugin?
