@jota, indeed there is smtg not working out in my configuration:
After inspecting at the light of the sun with your suggestions, instead of working late, I figured out the folder
/etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run
had not been actually removed as I thought, following instruction at : https://docs.bitnami.com/virtual-machine/faq/get-started/enable-ssh/
That evening I probably run the command not in sudo, and oversight the message, and carried on.
I then reset the configurations in /etc/init.d/ssh_config/
not to ask for keys.
Now back again to normality I can connect from my local machine.
Thank you for the tips.
A comment, if I can add, for user experience -
my use case in choosing a VM from bitnami is because I want to test open edx enviroment.
I tried three times to set it up, but failed because I have an old machine that does not support last versions of dockers. Tried to set up a VM with Ubuntu and failed, and then discovered there is also Bitnami VM, but it is based in Debian.
All of this to convey the message of my working context: I am a user that is facing multiple challenges (new to openedx, not used to work with VMs, documentation of edx is overwelming, links to older versions not present, etc.), and actually my final purpose is simply to get things up and running to figure out edx environment.
I think the FAQ documentation is clear enough for a person used to work with, and I understand you can aggregate some concepts common to different VMs (for wordpress, edx, etc.) for simplicity and management but, from my point of view as a user, a too long documentation or not tailor to a specific learning path, can get confusing.
(Also because edx documentation is huge and not so straightforward).
As example, here:
https://docs.bitnami.com/virtual-machine/faq/get-started/enable-ssh/
- I can read how to enable SSH, I did a mistake (mentioned above) but the following chapter is about how to set up keys.
- I know keys would not be necessary, but I attempted to do it flollowing instructions when things not work.
- Your message here is simpler, and in documentation one may want to add it, and specify setting up keys as an option.
- Also, in getting started, I see PhPmyAdmin , and examples based on Wordpress, not related to my use case : I would find much useful to add simple use cases tailored to VM applications - as per my example, a tutorial to get into edx, and create a new simple application - DigitalOcean is real good in creating documentations, in my point of view.
So wrapping up, if you would like to consider my comment at Bitnami, you may wish to consider:
- breaking down the documentation in smaller paragraphs (e.g. SSH : if you have windows > here, mac > here, instead of one full long chapter) and
- create tutorials with simple learning paths, to navigate into the system.
All in all, I hope to have provided some positivie feedback
Second feedback
You mentioned Mac OS X VM
I could not find it here:
https://bitnami.com/stack/edx/virtual-machine
Debian was only option for me... ?
(The .OVA machine)
Third feedback
This is about my other question, the purpose for setting up the VM
If you can help, much appreciated:
