After installing a Let's Encrypt SSL certificate my site gives a security error on browsers blocking all WP content and scripts. For me it is still possible to login to the WP admin. However the theme editor doesn’t load, I’m guessing it has a bad connection to the server/database. Where redirections issues and folder structure may be the cause.
Firefox: Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN
Firefox does not trust this site because it uses a certificate that is not valid for “IPv4 Public IP nr fx 01.23.45.678”. The certificate is only valid for the following domains: fx: www domain.dk, domain.dk
Chrome: Site blocked by security issue. But once the risks are accepted the console shows this error: Mixed Content: The page at '' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure font ''. This request has been blocked; the content must be served over HTTPS.
Safari: [Error] Failed to load resource: The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be “IPv4 Public IP nr fx 01.23.45.678”, which could put your confidential information at risk.
I have a domain hosted on AWS with a S3 bucket static site running. This domain has an SSL certificate issued by AWS. The site has been running without issues. Example of the domain is: domain.dk
But now a WordPress site is replacing the site.
So I made a bitnami LAMP installation on a EC2 instance. Where the WP is installed in htdocs root folder.
Installation with WP Duplicator plugin ran okay creating a database. The site is running on an instance with a “IPv4 Public IP nr fx 01.23.45.678”.
So I edited the A record Alias to the new “IPv4 Public IP nr fx 01.23.45.678”. Living the rest of the records sets as they where there is a CNAME with the domain’s value (fx domain.dk).
While on CloudFront distributions I have on the Alternate Domain Names (CNAMEs) both the domain with www and without (non-www). Here there is the SSL Certificate with a global link*.domain.dk. The only thing that I edited here is the Default Root Object which I wrote index php instead of index html.
Unable to find a way to transfer the original SSL Certificate to the WP Bitnami installation. I decided to “override” the certificate to a new one with the Bitnami HTTPS Configuration Tool. The tool ran without issues, where I created a certificate both to fx: www domain.dk, domain.dk
However the tool also configure the server’s name to fx domain.dk
I enabled redirections:
HTTP to HTTPS
www to non-www redirection
After this the security problem started on the browser.
Then on the WP admin General Settings:
I left the installation as it was in:
WordPress-address (URL): http:// 01.23.45.678 (Fx IPv4 Public IP nr )
But I changed the:
Website address (URL): http:// domain.dk
While on the Permalink settings are set to own structure:
I may add that i haven’t edited the .htaccess file with any Rewrite conditions.
In all I am lost as to which way to continue to fix the SSL Certificate and the structure of the WP installation for the site to load properly.
