This is a newbie question.
I am running the Bitnami LAMP stack on Amazon Lightsail. I am new to VPSes and I am using one Lightsail instance to host a few very low-traffic applications: InfluxDB and Grafana for IOT and a couple of Wordpress installations for basic websites (largely text articles).
Is there a "preferred" way to install Wordpress manually? I have simply created a subfolder for each website I wish to host under htdocs and installed Wordpress from a .tar file in each of these subfolders, and then created the needed databases in MySQL. Everything was done by following "recipes" online.
It's taken a lot of messing around with permissions to get things to work correctly (e.g., to allow Wordpress to install plugins and themes from within the admin interface) which makes me wonder if there is a better or "approved" way to do this (more easily and safely) within an existing instance.
My concern is that the installation I have
