When I try to download the data template for Contacts I get a "500 internal server error" message in big lettering on the page after the page has finished loading.
How can I fix this?
Could you give us more details about the way you are running OroCRM, version, platform, cloud provider etc? Did you change any configuration files, permissions?

I am running OroCRM on AWS. I used the Bitnami service to complete the install, two days ago.
We have been able to reproduce this issue. We are investigating it and we will contact you when we have more information.

It's a permissions issue:
cd /opt/bitnami/apps/orocrm/htdocs/appsudo chmod 777 import_export
