Multisite server does not show migrated site only the default wp blog "hello world" page

Description:
I have migrated the site from a single site Bitnami server to a new multi server with the migrated site being the only website on the new multi server. When I go to “view” site I only see the “hello world” default wp page.

Hello @bxr0354,

Have you checked our documentation?:
https://docs.bitnami.com/general/how-to/combine-wordpress-multisite/

I hope it helps

Just reviewed the documentation however could not identify exactly where I am going astray. Here is the latest - I have ostensibly conducted a successful migration of https://farrahstribute.com/ from a single WP Bitnami to a multiserver Bitnami. BUT can only see the website with the url: https://farrahstribute.farrahstribute.com/, the root url https://farrahstribute.com/ still is only displaying the “hello world” page albeit with the correct domain name in the address bar (https://farrahstribute.com/)

I’ve been running around this issue for so many days and seriously wondering if what I desire is technically possible (migrate website from single WP to multi WP server)…so frustrating!

I’ll go back to the documentation - but why should this be so impossible to suss out?

groan,
Brian

ADDENDUM:
I have been using Updraft plugin for migration and also checking in with them to assist with this issue. Here is their most recent email from their support desk at UpdraftPlus:

to me
HI Brian,

I’m afraid as there’s no option to redirect https://farrahstribute.farrahstribute.com/ to https://farrahstribute.com/ as https://farrahstribute.com/ already has theme installed and it cannot be replaced.

Regards,
Harshad

I this true? What if I scrapped my multiserver and began afresh (easy to do in AWS)??

Hi @bxr0354,

Probably starting from scratch could be a good option. Note that we are not familiar with UpdraftPlus plugin, so the developers could inform you better than us.

In case it helps, I detected this error in your apache error_log:

Got error 'PHP message: PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ':', expecting ')' in /opt/bitnami/apps/wordpress/htdocs/wp-config.php on line 12'
Got error 'PHP message: PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ':', expecting ')' in /opt/bitnami/apps/wordpress/htdocs/wp-config.php on line 14'

Let me share our troubleshooting guide:
https://docs.bitnami.com/general/apps/wordpress-multisite/configuration/configure-wordpress-multisite/#troubleshooting

Regards

thank you David, the troubleshooting guide very helpful (see below). I did scrap and start afresh with a new Bitami Multisite server. I have configured my current instance of the multisite server around the domain “turtleandtree.com” as the root domain and added the sub-domain “farrahstribute.com”, all this seems fine however when attempting to view the separate domain “farrahstribute.com” I need the concatenated url of “farrahstribute.turtleandtree.com” - if just typing in farrahstribute.com I get redirected to this url: http://turtleandtree.com/wp-signup.php?new=farrahstribute.com

Running the sql code suggested in the troubleshooting is:
domain
turtleandtree.com
farrahstribute.turtleandtree.com

From config file:
define( ‘DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE’, ‘turtleandtree.com’ );

While adding the sub-domain farrahstribute.com I went here:
“My Sites -> Network Admin -> Sites”

I pointed the A records for both domains to this ip: 3.90.188.207

The troubleshooting guide suggested possibility of editing the domain name, here is the passage

“…or you can edit the entry for the site in the “My Sites -> Network Admin -> Sites” list and modify the domain URL, as shown below:”

I did this by manually changing ‘farrahstribute.turtleandtree.com’ to ‘farrahstribute.com’, upon hitting “save” I was taken to a blank login page where I was stuck with not being able to login, enter in credentials and just goes back to same login page with the message about allowing cookies. It was at this point where I again terminated the then current instance and spun yet another new instance of Bitnami Multiserver, which is where I am this evening - btw I took your advice and doubled the RAM

thanks in advance!
best,
Brian

Hello @bxr0354,

We are glad you consider the documentation useful. Thanks for your feedback.

Could you share with us a new output tool so we can check the latest status of the installation?

Hello @bxr0354,

I can see that farrahstribute.com is pointing to a different IP, and it may be the root cause of the issue:
https://www.whatsmydns.net/#A/farrahstribute.com

David,
Correct observation, As I’ve been struggling with Bitnami single server migrating to Bitnami multiserver the website has been down. I couldn’t keep it in that state so moved the A record back to the Birtami single server and terminated the Bitami multiserver while I suss out these peculiar errors. I’ve gone through four (4) iterations of Bitnami multiserver, trying to configure - each ending in failure. So if I could please continue this issue before I spin up #5:

(1) I have learned through this process that moving a WP website from single server to multi server - first one has to install a different domain as the root domain on the multi server and then add the single server site as a subdomain. So first I created the primary domain as turtleandtree.com and then added farrahstribute.com as a subdomain. Once subdomain was created the site url was subDomain.primaryDomain, com instead of just plain 'ol subDomain.com, how does this get fixed in BItnami multiserver?

(2) is it possible to move a MySQL db from single to multi server - I believe I was able to enact the transfer, however it totally destroyed the site. After the db transfer I refreshed the page and the primaryDomain loaded the subDomain data without any css, while the subDomain (subDomain.primaryDomain, com) redirected to http://127.0.0.1/wordpress/wp-login.php

I am a newbie to a lot of this and do not have resources to consult with - getting your informed perspective is my only lifeline before I try this again on server #5 so please bear with me if you would.

best,
Brian

Hello Brian,

Im not affiliated with Bitnami in any way, just another client like yourself. I’ve had the same problem as you have now but I solved it and its very easy actually. I’m an idiot when it comes to these things, it should just work or I get mad

Anyway, the solution is to add the free addon All-in-one WP Migration to your current website and make a backup. Then you need to log on to your Wordpress Multisite installation, install All-in-one WP Migration there plus the addon for Multisite (which isnt free). With the addons installed, you simply upload the backup and everything works.

Hey, thanks so much damodrenator for your feedback!

I used all-i-one as I began my website migration journey - installing it for a migration from a single WP to multi WP. Once I was into the process I got stopped as all-in-one wanted to charge and just the start was $199 and on top of that a hefty monthly subscription charge (https://servmask.com/products/multisite-extension?locale=en) how did you handle that damodrenator?

I think the hiccup for me was migrating from a single to multiserver. At this point I only need to migrate one (1) site so was put off by the exorbitant cost. I found an alternative in UpdraftPlus - also has a subscription fee, but much less as a yearly is $70 USD - but as these posts in this forum attribute, I have had problem after problem and at this point am getting pretty fed up!

I have been able to successfully migrate db and content from the Bitnami single server to Bitnami multiserver, my question is refined to the domain name - specifically how to redirect from https://farrahstribute.turtleandtree.com/ to simply https://farrahstribute.com/?

thanks and regards,
Brian

hi @bxr0354

Now that your multiserver is working properly, please try again with this section:

https://docs.bitnami.com/aws/apps/wordpress-multisite/configuration/configure-wordpress-multisite/#add-several-wordpress-multisite-blogs-with-different-domains

I checked in my local and it is working. I hope this helps you. Let me know if your problem persists or not.

Thanks

Álvaro

We are rocking and rolling - finally - all sails up and moving ahead. Glad to have these issues resolved and many thanks to all who offered their suggestions and feedback!

best,
Brian

hi @bxr0354

Glad to hear that. Let me know if we can help you with something else.

Thanks
