Is there a reason to keep composer at 1.x? And what are permissions supposed to be for composer.phar

I see composer is at version 1. Is there a good reason to keep it there? There are many reason to upgrade to version 2, but asking cause don't want to break something down the road if I upgrade to 2.

Also notice the permissions and ownership for composer.phar at /opt/bitnami/php/bin is rwxr-xr-x root / root. Should the ownership be set to bitnami??

well yea I created a test site and tried to upgrade to composer 2. it gave me an error something about not able to update file. (I didnt write down the error). I was bitnami user according to whoami command. It did update itself when I used the sudo command in front of composer self-update --2. I have seen somewhere where they say do NOT update with sudo ...... But dont remember exact details ...

So the question is Are you supposed to use sudo when updating or maybe the ownership is supposed to be bitnami. Right now ownership of composer.phar is set to root.

I was able to update it on a test image with sudo:

sudo /opt/bitnami/php/bin/composer self-update --2

Did you face any issues after executing this command?

No, It did update.

Questioning if there are issues down the road when using sudo.....

As you may know, our solutions are being moved to a new approach using system packages. This is the case of Drupal cloud images.

Since everything under /opt/bitnami/php/bin/ belongs to root, it is necessary to install it as root and this should not alter the default installation.

Anyway, if you face any problem with the permissions after upgrading, we would like to know it and help you to restore any change that may be produced.

understood for permissions - when updating composer 'itself' you need to install with sudo .... ok Thks

Are there any concerns in upgrading composer to 2?
I see there is a downgrade path, back to 1.x after upgrading if needed.

Both Drupal and PHP should work properly with composer version 2, so you should not find any problem. Anyway, you could backup your current installation in order to revert changes in case of issues.
