Can someone please help my understand what is going on with the .htaccess files on my multisite install.
So I read the article about how the bitnami htaccess.conf is under APPNAME/conf. so I get that. so the problem I am having is that I use w3Total cache. It has ran for months with its own .htaccess in the htdocs folder of wordpress. But as of a month ago I am having a strange issue where a page on only one of the sites in the multisite install is failing to display a page. When I update the permalinks manually the problem resolves only to come back a few days later.
So while troubleshooting I figured out that you must take the htaccess rules from htdocs and put them in htaccess.conf. So I do this and the entire network crashes. I checked the syntax many times and it looks good. So I just reverted back to what has been working for months. The .htaccess with w3 total cache rules in htdocs and a plain htaccess.conf.
Everything started working but there the origional error persists.
This is something I just found out that is bothering me now. There are over 30 .htaccess files in the wordpress directory. All in wp-content. is this correct? Is something going on? I have many plugins because this network is fairly large but I had no idea. Alot of them are just sitemap links but I do not know what is going on anymore.
If someone could help out it would be very appreciated
