How to upgrade Git Lab version 7.9.3 to 12

I need help to upgrade the Git Lab version from 7.9.3 to 12. i created new aws instance and trying to migrate the existing running Git lab data to new upgraded instance. So here the problem is when i tried to run the backup command those were not working and also i don't have any idea of DB credential used by bitnami. Can you help me how i should proceed step by step like on new instance what version should i need to install first rather than latest one and what commands can work in 7.9.3 version for backup.

Hi @michiel,

I'm trying to create backup using below command
sudo -u git -H bundle exec rake gitlab:backup:create RAILS_ENV=production

but getting "Could not locate Gemfile", and also tried some other commands but getting error.

Could you help me is there any specific folder where i need to run the backup command.

Hi @rafaelrios,

I'm able to resolve that issue and getting version mismatch issue while restoring data to new server. See below error

GitLab version mismatch:
Your current GitLab version (7.10.5) differs from the GitLab version in the backup!
Please switch to the following version and try again:
version: 7.9.3

Hint: git checkout v7.9.3

I tried to install 7.9.3 version but i didn't found any omnibus package and gitlab varsion using Link. Could you tell me how can i install this version is there any specific link you want to share with me or is there any alternative way to upgrade the glitlab version.

Hi @gaurav.aggarwal,

You need to install the same version than the one you are currently using. If the package is not available, could you please ask the GitLab developers about how to install it or how to bypass the error you are getting?
