IMPORTANT, please fill the questions
We assume you are using Bitnami to deploy your application.
Which version of the application are you using?:
Open edX ficus.3-2
Please choose how you got the application: Installer (Windows, Linux, macOS), cloud image (AWS, GCE, Azure, ...) or VM (VMDK, VBOX):
AWS cloud image
Have you installed any plugin or modified any configuration file?:
Yes. I've installed gnome by running apt-get install task-gnome-desktop via sudo su.
I saw no installation problems.
Describe here your question/suggestion/issue (expected and actual results):
After installing gnome startx failed. See log below.
How do I get gnome to run on the Bitnami edx debian server image?
I've spent days trying to work out how to get around the Bitnami image's lack of gui and gui installation blocking, but I don't want to spend too much more time working out how to fix bad installations so that I can customize the edx server configuration for easier use.
I especially don't want to spend too much time trying to work out how to fix something that perhaps shouldn't be fixed for whatever reason or Bitnami configuration problems, both of which should be declared up front.
Does anyone know what Bitnami has against linux server gui's that have been around for years?
Why are they not included in installs? Why is there setup prevented by deafult, etc.?
I'd really like to spend time on the technicalities of the edx app instead of so much time sorting out linux server problems, which is the reason I launched the edx stack image...
