How to change the system timezone to be "America/New_York"?

Description:
The system time in the Bitnami stack is set to UTC, but I want to change it to East Coast timezone and I’d like set it to “America/New_York” (the same timezone I set WordPress to). How do I set the timezone “America/New_York”? Will this impact anything in the Bitnami WordPress Pro (NGINX+SSL) Stack? Anything else I would need to consider before making a system timezone change?

Hi @usrlocal,

To change the timezone you can run the following command in your instance:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

and then choose your preferred timezone.

Thanks, I was able to set the timezone to EST with that command.

But will my system adjust automatically for daylight savings time when DST starts on Sunday, March 11? The timezone just says EST so I don’t know if my system is set up to honor DST (I do want my system to honor DST and change the system time automatically).

Hi @usrlocal,

Yes , it should automatically adjust for daylight savings time.
