Hi @alvaro and thank you for your help!!
I do have access to the wordpress site. That was never problematic in fact.
Yes, the only thing that's blocked is access by ftp, or rather sftp, and with ssh.
Re password change: I must have simply changed it when prompted to do so, when I first created the vm. Unfortunately I don't now remember exactly how that went. I don't think I did anything other than what the vm presented me with, at least partly because I didn't know what I was doing yet (and still learning), so I'm sure I would not have tried to go around any standard bitnami procedure. Sorry if that's vague.
I wonder if I should try just creating a new vm, if maybe somewhere along the way I accidentally changed some setting without realizing it? I do recall that it took some effort to install guest additions, and I'm quite sure that in the process of doing that I tried running
and maybe that altered something???
Hi again. Updating this to say that I've created a new vm starting from scratch. The change of password took place when I first started the vm, I was prompted to change the password, which I did. I also followed the bitnami guide for installing guest additions. So far so good. And checking that it has vsftpd, it does. Then restart. But still if I try to connect with filezilla it says that the connection was refused.
Sorry, but I have no idea how to get this to work. I would like to try to make a child theme and anyway would like to have access to the wordpress files in some convenient way, like I suppose sftp would be. Using a shared folder seems not so convenient though I guess it could be an option. Just being able to connect with filezilla seems ideal, but the vm is refusing the connection and I don't understand it. Thanks in advance for any advice.
