Thanks for reading. I'm Michael, and I'm a total Rookie / Noob. So your kindness is appreciated.
I've set up mantis using bitnami and AWS from my Mac.
I had the hardest time finding and accessing the htdocs/config_inc.php file and saw a post that said to use this:
sudo nano htdocs/config_inc.php
So using iTerm (command line app) I got the php file opened and was eager to either Fix it, or F it all up.
I've got everything else working except email. No new user creation confirmations or forgot password emails.
I have IMAP enabled at gmail with no 2 factor and nothing fancy.
I found the emails were in the email-table inside myPHP and based on a thread, I removed them just to ensure there would be no backlog that would affect anything.
Just my luck, more testing and now the emails are not even appearing there either .
Wanna see my PHP

Any pointers you can share would be appreciated. I've checked out the manual at https://www.mantisbt.org/manual/admin.config.email.html
I've already reviewed these posts and found my config seems consistent -
