Getting default 'fresh install' page after running bncert-tool

Keywords: Django - AWS - Technical issue - Secure Connections (SSL/HTTPS)

bnsupport ID: 85e53b0e-3752-f6af-9881-42b45554cdc4

bndiagnostic output:

? Apache: Found possible issues
https://docs.bitnami.com/general/apps/wordpress/troubleshooting/debug-errors-apache/
https://docs.bitnami.com/bch/apps/moodle/troubleshooting/deny-connections-bots-apache/

bndiagnostic failure reason: No errors reported about changes made by bncert-tool.

Description:
After running the bncert-tool, I’m not longer able to access my application.

https://www.simple-non-profit.org serves the ‘fresh install’ page.
Congratulations!
You are now running Bitnami Django 3.2.5 in the Cloud…

No SSL errors and http>https and non-www to www redirects work fine.
but the Django site is not shown.

I can still reach it through port 80 with my static IP.

I see the bncert-tool modified three files:
/opt/bitnami/apache/conf/httpd.conf
/opt/bitnami/apache/conf/bitnami/bitnami.conf
/opt/bitnami/apache/conf/bitnami/bitnami-ssl.conf

I reverted to the backups of:
/opt/bitnami/apache/conf/bitnami/bitnami.conf
/opt/bitnami/apache/conf/bitnami/bitnami-ssl.conf

in order to get to the insecure site:
http://www.simple-non-profit.org/

Re: bnsupport-tool reported errors

  1. Apache Errors seemed to have quieted down.

I’m seeing these errors while tailing the apache error_log:
Exception ignored in: <function BaseEventLoop.del at 0x7f337b5c5040>
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “/opt/bitnami/python/lib/python3.8/asyncio/base_events.py”, line 654, in del

It doesn’t seem to affect functionality. IDK.

  1. Bots

I’ve been seeing a lot of activity in the error_log and adding the ‘attacker’ IP addresses to the VirtualHost to “deny” entries, per the instructions. Seems like whack-a-mole. DJANGO’s “Allowed Hosts” param seems to be working as are other Bitnami protections on PHP and other preinstalled programs.

This can be closed.

I found another thread that details updating /opt/bitnami/apache/conf/bitnami/bitnami-ssl.conf.
Updated DocumentRoot, Directory, and added WSGIScriptAlias to match the default:80.

The SSL site is now served as expected.

Not sure why the bncert-tool fails to make all the necessary changes nor the documentation. Room for improvement. Thanks to the Community for tips to fix this. Best~

p.s.
The Apache Errors errors found by the bnsupport-tool appear to be unrelated to the SSL issue.

Hi @lar-mo,

Thanks for using Bitnami! I’m glad you fixed your issue, and also thank you for posting your solution. We will notify our engineering and documentation teams about this and close this thread as solved. Please do not hesitate to open a new one with any other questions you may have.

Best regards,
Gonzalo
