GCP snapshot restoration problem

Keywords: ResourceSpace - Google Cloud Platform - How to - Other
Hey there,

i have following problem, i have my resourcespace installed trough the bitnami resourcespace package in the GCP marktplace.

Now if i create a snapshot of the server and run the snapshot in a new VM i cant connect to the backup of the resourcespace trough the server ip. Do i have to add the new server from the backup somehow to the Deployment Manager or how does that work?

Have a nice day

Hi @auxoartworks,

My understanding is that you restored a snapshot of a ResourceSpace application to a new VM and now you are not able to access this new VM, is that correct?

We have a Support Tool that will gather relevant information for us to analyze your configuration and logs. Could you please execute it on the machine where the restored ResourceSpace application is running by following the steps described in the guide below?

How to Run the Bitnami Support Tool

Please note that you need to paste the code ID that is shown at the end.

So what to i make now with the ID code what it gave it to me?

thing is how does the backup work when i have to run everytime on a new server the support tool and send you the code it displays? I mean the VM runs and i can connect to it via SSH in browser but resourcespace seems not working

Hi @auxoartworks,

When you restore the snapshot, the scripts in the Bitnami installation detect that your machine IP address has changed and it automatically configures the ResourceSpace application to work with this new IP address. I visited your ResourceSpace website at the machine IP address for the bnsupport bundle that you provided us with, and ResourceSpace seems to be up and running. Can you tell us which issues are you facing?

Hey thanks for your reply,

the ip what you have there is the original server which is still runnig the backup server ip adress is do i have first to turn off the server which is running to test if the new server will be working? from this server i made a backup. and if i want to use the packup i cant connect to the new server it is running but somehow not accessible

Hi @auxoartworks,

You don’t need to stop the original server to test the new one. They are different servers. Can you run the bnsupport tool in the restored server so we can check its configuration?

the code which i send you should be already from the restored server i think but here is in case i made a new VM with the same snapshot. It’s still not possible to connect from the fresh made VM to the backup img of RS the ip wont load

this is the IP:

this is the code from bnsupport tool:

maybe i have to add a firewall rule for it? Because it doesnt automatic create one when i make a server from a snapshot.
It does that automatic when you make a fresh deployment from the bundle what bitnami has on the GCS Marktplace.

Hi @auxoartworks,

You are right, it is possible that the firewall is blocking connections to Apache ports (80 and 443). Can you try opening them in your restored server firewall? You can find more information about this process at https://docs.bitnami.com/google/faq/administration/use-firewall/

I checked that the Bitnami services are running (according to the bnsupport bundle), so checking the firewall may be a good point.

I did that already as well and dint helped me to be able to connect to backup server

Hi @auxoartworks,

Can you double-check that you created the new firewall rules to be accessible from everywhere (setting as the Source IP ranges option) and that you assigned the new rules to the restored server? Can you share a screenshot of the rules with us?

Apart from that, can you run the command below from the restored server to check that the Apache server is working properly?

curl -Li ""

Hey Gongomgra

sorry for the late reply i just run the curl command via ssh and got the following as seen in the screen its more lines than on the screenshot. Also i added a screenshot of the firewall rules

and this one as well

Hi @auxoartworks,

I don’t speak German, but I think everything is ok from the screenshots that you shared with us. Just in case, can you double-check in the instance details screen that your server has the firewall rules properly assigned?

Also, from the command line screenshot, I can see ResourceSpace is properly working. Can you check with the Google Cloud support team for more help on this? Bitnami services seem to be working fine

Thanks Gongomgra for your help i will ask the GCP Support.

I’m very thankful for your help

Hi @auxoartworks,
