I'm trying to get the latest VMware image (v1.620) up and running for the first time, but I'm facing a problem.
Whenever I make some change that requires a restart, e.g. updating or installing new plugins, Jenkins forever hangs on "Please wait while Jenkins is restarting" in the web UI.
The log file
/opt/bitnami/apache-tomcat/logs/catalina-daemon.out shows the following at the end:
Jul 19, 2015 2:58:30 AM hudson.model.UpdateCenter doSafeRestart
INFO: Scheduling Jenkins reboot
Jul 19, 2015 2:58:30 AM jenkins.model.Jenkins$24 run
INFO: Restart in 10 seconds
Jul 19, 2015 2:58:40 AM jenkins.model.Jenkins$24 run
SEVERE: Restarting VM as requested by anonymous
Jul 19, 2015 2:58:41 AM jenkins.model.Jenkins$24 run
WARNING: Failed to restart Jenkins
java.io.IOException: Failed to exec 'jsvc.exec' No such file or directory
I'm not sure if it's safe enough to simply restart Tomcat at this point, but that's what I ended up doing:
sudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh restart tomcat
While I am at it, I might as well mention that out of the box, the VM and Jenkins (UI) seemed to perform pretty poorly. Jenkins also just hanged whenever I tried to go to "Manage Jenkins". This particular problem (not the first one) disappeared as soon as I allocated 1 GB memory for them VMware VM rather than 512 MB.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide!
