My EC2 instance has been running with Bitnami Wordpress without incident for 6 weeks, when all of sudden a week ago, it stopped loading and said it had an error connecting to the database and was out of disk space. According to the AWS console, the EC2 instance is fine and running.
I’ve been going through the help files on your site and it sounds like the issue is probably that the database got too big. However, I increased the EBS volume from 10GB to 15GB and it still isn’t working.
The current status (sudo /opt/bitnami/ctlscript.sh status) says:
php-fpm not running
apache not running
mysql not running
When I inspect the disk usage (du -ch --max-depth=1 /opt/bitnami), I get this:
du: cannot read directory '/opt/bitnami/var/data': Permission denied
du: cannot read directory '/opt/bitnami/mysql/data': Permission denied
When I inspect the whole disk (du -ch --max-depth=1 / 2>/dev/null), I get this:
I also ran df -h, and got this:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
udev 475M 0 475M 0% /dev
tmpfs 97M 3.2M 94M 4% /run
/dev/nvme0n1p1 9.7G 9.7G 0 100% /

When I try to run the bitnami support tool, I get the following message:
Unable to initialize installer.
Is /tmp writable ?
Is SELinux enabled? You may need to disable it temporarily
Please see below for details
If disk space is the issue, then I assume that, in theory, if I can get wordpress running again, I can install WP-Optimize to help keep the database in check. But getting it running again is the problem!
This is our first time using cloud hosting and I’m a little out of my depth here (however I’m relatively adept at troubleshooting Wordpress issues on regular hosting services like GoDaddy, Siteground, etc). This website is my organization’s company site and it was supposed to go live today (obviously it didn’t). I’m at my wits end and hoping someone can help – especially with how to prevent this from happening in the future!
Thank you for your help!
