Describe here your question/suggestion/issue (expected and actual results):
Will there be an automated cluster deployment image for Debian 9 again? For Debian 8 and Elasticsearch 6, you could deploy a number of nodes automatically configured as a cluster with a given name through the Google Cloud Launcher, based on Bitnami's GCE image.
However, Debian 8 just went out of support, meaning security patches for the kernel will no longer be supplied. We would like to upgrade to Debian 9, but the Debian 9 image Bitnami has provided doesn't have any automatic setup of clustering. This leads to manually configuring each node. There's not much configuration needed, but it means our automatic provisioning scripts would need quite a lot of modification to work with this new image. Before we only needed to supply the appropriate configuration (cluster name, ports, number of nodes), and they would get their node discovery set up appropriately.
Of course, we could alter the image and set things up ourselves, but then using Bitnami images is a bit pointless, as that's about as much work as switching to the Google provided container images.
