That´s the exact page that I used to figure out what to do with Lightsail/Route 53 coordination. I think that I followed the instructions fine.
I finally got to my website via domain name after having changed the bnconfig file according to Bitnami instructions. I´m really happy about that.
I still am confused regarding a) the glue records (https://intodns.com/sayitsofi.com) as well as b) the xio.io suffix that´s automatically added to my IP address when I try getting to my site with it.
Someone from AWS documentation reached out to me and gave me the following response:
...this is exactly how you currently have everything set up:
- When you registered your domain name with Route 53, we automatically created a hosted zone named sayitsofi.com for you. We also associated the name servers with that hosted zone and update the domain registration to use the same four name servers.
The name servers for the sayitsofi.com hosted zone are:
These are also the name servers that are associated with your domain registration.
- To route traffic to your Lightsail instance, I'd create either two A records (sayitsofi.com and www.sayitsofi.com) or an A record and a CNAME record, as you did.
I can't explain the message about glue records. In Route 53, you only use glue records when your name servers have the same domain name as your domain, for example:
I see the same content if I go to both of these sites:
I can't explain why the URLs change to:
I'd speculate, though, that it's a Bitnami or Lightsail configuration issue.
I do want to mention that:
At first my domain was registered and hosted by Route 53, even though it was a Lightsail instance.
But then I decided to go ahead with a Lighsail Wordpress Multisite instance. I then altered the hosted zone A record in Route 53 to point to the Multisite. I didn´t have any luck (was also unaware that 48 hours may have to pass in order for the cache in the name server to expire) and noticed in Lightsail that 4 name servers were specified. So I changed those in Route 53.
There were several hours during which the A records and the domain registration name server list did not coincide. Eventually, through forums, I realized that the these instructions that you have recommended above applied also to coordinating between Lightsail and Route 53.
Do you have any idea of what is still wrong with my configuration to cause the a) Glue Records issue or b) the xio.io suffix that´s attaching to my IP?
Thanks for your help.
