So, I don't really know what I'm doing and I ran into problems by brute force changing things.
I have an AWS Lightsail instance running Joomla. I'm using a plug-in called SEBLOD that I need to add files to the server. When I tried to add them, I got a "permission denied" error. In my searching I found out that I need to change the owner, so I used
sudo chown -r bitnami:bitnami htdocs (or something like that)
Everything seemed to work fine, but then when I tried to backup the site using Akeeba backup, I got a "Could not write to file" So, did a little research and changed the permission with
sudo chmod 777 back-up-folder (I'm sure 777 is bad, but like I said, I have no idea what I am doing, I'm a front-end guy)
So that worked fine, then I tried to change the joomla config file and got the same error. So, instead of continuing down this rabbit hole I have dug for myself, my questions is... Is there a way for me to reset the server back to it's default permisions and owners WITHOUT destroying all the work I have done on the Joomla site?
If there is, I'm assuming (yes, this is what got me in trouble in the first place) I can just change the owner of the folder I need to add the files to and continue my work.
Please let me know if you have any questions, or I did not explain this well enough.
