On my 32-bit Ubuntu 14.04 machine, the Bitnami-Alfresco-4.2.f-2-linux system is running very slowly - even more so since I installed the BECFG forms modeler. I have loaded no files into the document library at this time, and the problem occurs using both network and localhost connections. Output of the free utility suggests that the computer isn’t memory bound.
I suspect that the Tomcat server needs more JVM memory. However, the instructions for increasing JVM memory for Bitnami Tomcat recommend altering the ctrlscript.sh file (in some Bitnami documentation) or the ctl.sh (in other Bitnami documentation) to replace:
export JAVA_OPTS="-XX:MaxPermSize=512m -Xms256m -Xmx512m"
export JAVA_OPTS="-XX:MaxPermSize=512m -Xms512m -Xmx1024m"
The only ctlscript.sh file I can find is in the Alfresco-4.2.f-2 folder, and it has
no JAVA_OPTS settings. The same is true for the apache-tomcat/scripts/ctl.sh file. The most recent Bitnami documentation doesn’t seem to treat the subject of JVM memory at all.
I would very much appreciate any suggestions, including possible other causes of the problems.
