Accessing the files of the Magento 2 installation (Docker)

Keywords: Magento - Virtual Machines - How to - Connectivity (SSH/FTP)

Description:
Hi,
first you need to know that I am not familiar with Docker. For developing Magento 2 extension my boss said I shall use docker. So I stumbled upon https://hub.docker.com/r/bitnami/magento/ and was quite happy that it worked without any hassle. Even installing the sample data was no problem.

But how do I access the installed files? There is no shared directory or something. This is probably a stupid question but I just can’t figure it out.

Help would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

Kind regards,
Markus

Hi @markus.michalski,

You can access the container’s command line by using the docker commands (docker exec) and can also copy files to the container if required. You can also set new volumes to mount in the docker image so you have all the files you developed in the Magento container.

https://docs.docker.com/storage/volumes/

If you have any other questions, we provide technical support for our containers in our Github repositories. Our team is actively monitoring them and will be glad to help you there, usually within a business day, and the whole community will benefit from your contribution. Could you please post your question by creating a new issue in the Magento repo?

Thanks.
