Access Denied: Change The MySQL Root Password

Keywords: WordPress + NGINX + SSL - AWS - How to - Credentials

Greetings again.

I goofed and locked myself out of Wordpress as I was increasing password difficulty. For some reason it did not save correctly. Either way, I decided to CHANGE using the Bitnami Guide:

However, I encountered this error while attempting to Change password.

$ sudo /home/bitnami/wordpresspro/mysql/bin/mysqladmin -p -u root password
Enter password:
mysqladmin.bin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password : Yes)'

I also tried using the bitnami_credentials and bitnami_application_password utilities but apparently these have changed credentials. I am essentially trying to login to phpmyadmin. I assume, these are the same credentials. Thanks in advance. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Learning as I go.

I decided to test a simple login with another staging instance whereby my access credentials are known and I received this error while attempting to login:

Does this mean I need to sha2 hash my username and password to access Phpmyadmin? I tried both with no success.

Hello @avanzate1,

I’m not sure I understood you. Your issue was related to the WordPress password, right? In that case, you should follow this guide:

If you are instead having issues with the root database user, you then need to follow the guide you linked. In this second case, you probably will need to reset the password using the /tmp/mysql-init file as explained in the second section of the guide:
