I just ran through the steps on a server of mine. It did exactly what it should have, and is pretty straight forward.
Things to keep in mind. Seeing you are stopping your instance you public IP will change, you mentioned you were not using elastic IP's. So you'll need to update your A record after this so DNS works again. You can attach an elastic IP address if you like so you won't have to deal with that again.
Also when you restart it, the command to SSH into the server will change (it did with mine). You can get the new ssh command from the connect button on your instance.
Let me know if you have any questions about the steps provided. You don't have to resize the partition on the linux size, as the bitnami startup scripts do this automatically upon startup.
